Stan’s Journey

Miyajima

May 2022. Miyajima (also called Itsukushima) is a small (30km2) island located in the Seto inland sea, close to Hiroshima. Several persons in Tokyo recommended to visit this place if I go to Hiroshima. The island is mainly covered by forests. Miyajima is considered a sacred island, for reasons linked to its Buddhist history. There are many deers everywhere (and tourists too). However, I hiked Mount Misen (I think it’s the highest peak, only 530m) and it was much less crowded (I was lucky with the weather). Going to Mount Minsen was a great decision. I had no plan but found the hiking trail and just followed it. There’s also a well known Buddhist temple on the way (Daisho-in).
